What is Active Release Therapy?

Active Release therapy (ART) is a set of techniques and practices aimed at relieving scarring and damage to muscle and tissue due to overuse or overloading.

An ART session is a combination of inspection and treatment.  Hands are used to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, nerves, tendons, and ligaments. Abnormal tissues are found and treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific movements on your part.

Next, once the specific area is identified for treatment, we utilize a series of the 500 specific moves of ART, to break up any accumulation causing the discomfort. This process allows us to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach, or a one size fits all therapy.

Benefits of Active Release Therapy

As stated before, ART can help you to get feeling better and moving more freely after an overuse or strain of a muscle, tendon or nerve. Since no two injuries are identical, ART can benefit the patient in the numerous ways:

  • Breaking up scare tissue and possible other injuries within the muscles

  • Rapid recovery to allow you to return to your sport of choice or activity

  • Pain reduction in the treated areas

  • Increased strength

  • Improved range of motion

See if Active Release Therapy is Right for You

Every person is different, just like every injury and because of that its important that a trained specialist identify the right treatment for you. While you may think your injury will best be suited to specific treatment, you should leave that to the professional to guide you through the process, so that you prevent any further injury that may lead to more serious complications.

Our goal is to get you feeling better and back to your life pain free, so please reach out to us for a consultation on what your treatment plan will look like.
